GII India

The Gemmological Institute of India (GII ) is the first non profit research and educational organisation in the field of Gemmology in India. It is a public institution founded by the Gem and Jewellery Exporters' Association, Bombay.

The Institute was established in the year 1971 for the promotion propagation and development of the science of gemstones and research studies in India.

At Glance

Established the first Gem Testing Laboratory in India - 1971.
Started Gemmology course for the first time in India - 1974.
Established the first Research and Development Laboratory (R & D Lab) in the field of Gem Stones and Gemmology in India - 1976.
Started the first Diamond Assorting and Grading Course ( Diamond Course ) in India - 1978.
Department of Science & Technology, Government of India Recognition as R & D Laboratory - 1979
Started the first Correspondence Course in Gemmology in India - 1983.
Conducts F.G.A. examinations ( London ) on behalf of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain for the last 28 years.
Conducts training classes for F.G.A. (London) examination.
Established one of the best equipped Libraries in India on Gemmology.
Till date more than 5,000 students have received training at the institute.
More than 50,000 Gem Stones have been tested, identified and issued certificates.
The 85th Batch of Gemmology began from 5th January 2000.
Started Jewellery Casting course in the year - 1995.
Started Jewellery Designing course in the year - 1995.
Gem Testing laboratory is officially recognised by the International Jewellery, Silverware and Gemstone CIBJO.
Students from all parts of the world are enrolled for the courses at the institute.
